Theatrical 6 - 'Silver Linings'

Analysis:

  • handheld camer shots ot open show instability
  • the opening is establishing the setting/location first - long establishing shot of the house
  • the dialogue opens about the main character- not to him or his own monologue which shows his seclusion in society and his issues and how they affect everyone
  • immediately sets up the issues faced by the protagonist - mental illness
  • the juxtaposition of the monologue by the main character to the contrasting actions - such as not being angry and then throwing the book outside the window
  • theme of running is introduced early on as well
  • sets up that he is getting better
  • non chronological shots of the scenes from the film are breaking up the montage of his running, it is a constant theme through the trailer - like his coping mechanism
  • introduced to the other protagonist in the first minute - helps to show their developing relationship
  • share the social awkwardness shown through the shot reverse shot and their handheld shots
  • development of their relationship shown through change of music t a more uplifting and new beginnings style music
  • tell it is romantic as the shots get more intimate and therefore more close ups
  • includes names of actors throughout the film
  • ends in equilibrium with the montage of the uplifting moments from the film
