First Draft - Feedback

It is def looking better and you’ve taken on board you’re feedback so well done. Now let’s sort the sound. Still consider a more emotional re-record, and chop/layer the sound. As you’re using copyright free music, keep trawling and see if there’s anything else there.  From Miss Page, also consider whether you have a colour palette and how you can emphasise this. Especially if it is an art related trailer!

Theatrical 5 - 'Paper Towns'

Image
Trailer: Analysis This film is clearly a coming of age genre, shown through mainly the age  of  the protagonists. it also opens with a change of age, beginning as two children to two teenagers. The narrative explores the boy finding himself and discovering love, key features of a coming of age story. T he music is pop style and reintroduces when the relationship between the boy and girl develop through the night. The film explores the themes of friendship, relationships and discovery. The trailer is fairly chronological, at the beginning, starting with the night they terrorise the town, but after Margot goes missing, there is a montage of the friendship and mystery they uncover. The lighting is bright with low contrast with undertones of blue. This conveys the sense of discovery and the brighter future. This also highlights the setting of 'paper towns' as a suburban teen drama.

Iconography - Coming Of Age

Image
ICONOGRAPHY: Iconography used in coming of age films are usually mobile phones and school books as these are things young people use regularly. Pop music is also strong iconography as this is also often related to young people as it is youthful and fun. Some other iconography is things such as posters of bands as this is something many teenagers are interested in for example a lot of adolescent girls are big fans of the band one direction so posters of these would be seen as good iconography for a girly teenaged character. Cd’s and magazines are also very good for showing the characters interest for example young girls would have magazines such as Seventeen magazine as it has a big female teenage audience and talks about themes such as beauty products and fashion which are big interests for teenage girls and would connote the character is a typical girly girl.  LOCATION: Coming of age films usually have setting such as taking place in a school or at the protagonist...

Theatrical 4 - 'All I See Is You'

Image
Trailer: Analysis: This  trailer  uses conventions rom a thriller/horror and a drama, creating a hybrid style. The equilibrium established at the beginning, presents the protagonists problem at the beginning (suffering from blindness). The beginning of the trailer uses the disorientating style of the diegetic sounds and voiceover with a black screen, so the audience is unaware of the genre and the narrative, therefore drawing them in. The constant tapping of the stick increases tension, maintaining a fast pace and a time awareness to the trailer. This tension is increased with the opportunity of sight. However, again the use of sound creates more unnerving tension as the echo of the doctors voiceover along with the soundscape of fading, distorted and echoing voices disorientates the viewer, giving a tension as to the result of the operation. The drama romantic element of the film is shown in the following scenes as there...

Theatrical 3 - 'The Clapper'

Image
Trailer: Analysis: This  trailer  exploits the conventions of a romantic comedy. This trailer introduces the two 'lovers' at the start of the clip, accompanying their interactions with the bright, guitar, upbeat music. The awkward interactions are endearing to the audience. The job of the man intersperses their dates and meetings, showing how important his job is to him. This also creates a state of equilibrium. The music in the scenes when the man is at work is stopped, showing how the important part of the film is the romance and that the work could potentially become a problem for their relationship. This problem is defined in the introduction of the 'Jayme Stillerman Show' which builds tension and disrupts the state of equilibrium. At this point of disruption, the music stops again, and changes to a more reflective tone using a slower pace and singing. A further disruption in their r...

Theatrical 2 - 'Before I Fall'

Image
Trailer: Analysis: This trailer opens with an establishing voiceover, which immediately introduced the audience to the main character. This  also  allows the audience to be aware of her situation, therefore setting up the narrative and characters to the film. This voiceover is accompanied by not only a repeated piano chord which gives an ominous, dramatic feel to the opening (drawing the audience in) by also and equally dramatic slow motion clip of the main character in focus walking through a packed corridor. These used conventions clearly focus on a dramatic trailer. The montage of scenes that follow create a normal high school environment that establishes and equilibrium, showing a normal day for the main character we have just been introduced to. The tension levels increase with the shortening of the clips and the pace of the cuts, this then climaxes at the car crash. The directors conformity to the teen drama conventions allows the audie...

Theatrical 1 - 'Call Me By Your Name'

Image
Trailer: Analysis: This trailer clearly exhibits the social realism genre, immediately through the  colouring  in the post production stages, as there is a desaturated tone with higher contrast and pastel style colours, with a yellow overtone. This also introduces the heat of the setting and the summertime. The film explores the narrative of 2 young men who fall in love, unfortunately not a typical topic of film, therefore the social realism drama aspect has a new take and explores the difficulties of love, with the added complications of the usually unaccepted homosexual relationship. The characters are introduced individually, starting at an equilibrium. The trailer conveys the development in their relationship but also the discovery of the boy's homosexuality. This is shown through using scenes where both men's proxemics are decreased, followed by intimate scenes with the two men. This is further explored through the development of shots, as when it become...
