Development from AS - Summary

General Reflection:

Since AS I would change my time management so I was more prepared with the blog and my coursework allowing more time for editing and any re-shoots needed to aim for accuracy and precision in my work. This could give me more time to reflect and improve on the coursework, making it the best it can be. I would change my attitude towards the filming stage being less lenient with the shots and making sure they are perfect. I will also be more strict with the narrative and the storyboard stages, making sure the planning is clear and easy to understand, to then influence the creating stages which will allow more clarity in the shots and the structure to the filming days.
My blog will be clearly laid out with all the posts easy to access and the pages clear and correct. I will also include a variety of styles of presentation in my work, making my blog interesting and easy to look at. I will make sure that not only is this blog interesting but it maintains continuity of style to make it professional.
I will also strive to increase the amount of research in my blog and therefore deepen my understanding of the genre, theorists and anything that could aid planning for my A2 coursework. I will also regularly try to evaluate and reflect on my research to deepen my understanding of the subject.

Creativity:

Due to this project being a trailer the whole plot of the film has to be thought out and therefore requires a more sophisticated creativity as the moments of narrative have to be considered carefully and therefore the creativity to be able to show just enough of the story to be interesting but not too much that it gives away the plot does mean the level of creativity is higher than in AS. This year I want a more creatively challenging piece as I want the audience to be intruiged but make the trailer more exciting and explore a wide range of my editing and filming abilities. I want my creativity this year, to not be limited by timing issues, or making sure that the filming is done in the most efficient way, time and effort wise, as I want my creativity to spur on ideas to try new and exciting shots, locations and styles.

Post-Production:

The post-production in A2 will be more evenly balanced with creative input from all of the members of the group. I will concentrate more on the colouration and saturation of shots and develop these ideas therefore maximising the conventions of genre and understanding these conventions. I will also exploit the effect of longer and shorter duration shots more, especially playing with fast and slower montages as these are a key aspect of trailers. When I want to achieve an effective editing effect that will enhance the look and professionalism of the final product, I will devote more time and research into achieving this, incorporating it in an impressive manner. In post production I will also be more specific and pedantic about the continuity, with sound and shots to ensure that the piece is clear, precise and effective.

Digital Technology:

I want to make sure that for A2 that I do not use technical equipment that is not effective, for example in AS we used a camera that was slightly temperamental as it would make shutter noises to refocus. I will therefore only use equipment such as the camera that are completely continuity effective and generally as easy to use as possible. The digital technology will be the same however this year I really want to exploit the software to its full potential, exploring every way to edit and produce the film. I will also be using more digital software in the creation of the website and I want to make sure that this is easy to use but also really eye catching and draws the audience to our product. I also want to explore other forms of technology in the creation of shots during filming such as capturing an arial shot by using equipment such as a drone etc.

Real Media Conventions:

This year, I really want to execute deeper research into the conventions of the genre we chose because i really want to explore how our piece can challenge and conform to these conventions. With this, I want to test many styles of genre but also test out different ways in using or subverting the conventions of the genre, this way we can discover the best way of creating the final film trailer. I also want to explore all the shot styles and the editing styles used in the creation of a trailer and apply most of them, where appropriate, to our film as I want to try many styles of shots. For A2 I definitely want to explore the real media conventions behind timings of shots and really capitalise on the durations making sure that whilst the editing may conform to the conventions it may exaggerate these, creating a new meaning.

Research And Planning:

Due to our unplanned change in genre at the end of AS, I want to make sure that in A2 I am completely secure in all of my planning, conducting detailed storyboards and precise planning of the trailer so that the filming day becomes easier and also that the group is secure and stable in the way the film will be created. Therefore i want to devote more time to planning. I also want my research to be more thorough, deeply exploring not only the conventions but theorists, articles and studies on not just the genre but also the whole idea of the trailer, so our piece can be very effective and also can be backed up with the research. The research will also be more organised on my blog, therefore making it more accessible and in turn making my blog more professional.
