Teaser 9 - 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre'
Trailer:
Key Shots:
- black screen
- text over black screen indicating narrative
- slashing of screen with light behind
- shot of chainsaw
Analysis:
The text at the beginning of this trailer clearly indicates the narrative with the type font indicating the genre and adding mystery to the next events. The text in this clip also provides mystery in the use of ellipses and therefore makes the audience be more on edge. The sound is key in this clip as most of the screen is black and therefore the sound sets up the storyline and the narrative. The opening of the woman screaming and the lack of image which makes the audience full of suspense and this mystery makes the audience empathise with the character, placing them in an almost POV shot as they feel they are in the dark. This also taps into the common fear of the darkness which shows the genre conventions being used. The fact the sound is only diegetic makes the clip more naturalistic and realistic making it easier for the audience to relate and therefore making it more scary, also conforming to, challenging and developing the conventions of a thriller/ horror genre film. The running sound effects adds pace and a rhythmic tense pulse to the clip, also adding tension. The black screen allows the audience to use their imagination, making it personal and more suspenseful. The silence gives the audience a false sense of hope for safety of the girl and the chainsaw noise acts as a jump scare, the coupling with the slashes in the screen makes the audience scared but also puts the audience in the position of the girl, making it easy to relate and tapping into the curiosity and the scared nature of the audience.
I think that you have produced well detailed posts analysing both teaser and theatrical , with clear focus on all aspects such keys shots and music, overall showing a deep understanding of the trailers.
